“Midwifery Week kicks off with Electronic Fetal Monitoring Training” – BRTK

Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Association Celebrates Midwifery Week

The Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Association recently organized events during the “21-28 April Midwifery Week” to honor midwives, a profession that was gifted by Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. According to the president of the union, Ali Özgöçmen, a seminar titled “Midwives are a Vital Solution to the Climate Problem” was held in collaboration with the Near East University. Today, a 3-day “Electronic Fetal Monitoring” program is taking place in partnership with the Turkish Midwives Association in celebration of “5 May World Midwives Day”.

Özgöçmen emphasized the significance of the midwifery profession, which was recognized as an “intangible cultural heritage” by UNESCO in 2023. He described midwifery as the oldest and one of the most important professions that will never become obsolete. “The profession that is closest to the mother and the newborn at every moment is about love, compassion, knowledge, and care,” he stated. Özgöçmen extended his congratulations and respect to all midwives around the world, acknowledging them as symbols of skill.

The Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Association’s efforts to honor and appreciate midwives during Midwifery Week serve as a reminder of the crucial role these healthcare professionals play in ensuring safe childbirth and maternal health.
