Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues statement on April 1 – BRTK
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement denouncing the Greek administration for its messages and celebrations surrounding the establishment of the EOKA terrorist organization. According to the Ministry, this indicates that the Greek/Greek mentality towards Cyprus has not changed.
The statement highlighted Greece’s slogans of “Cyprus Greek” and “Cyprus is Greek,” reaffirming the Greek administration’s view of itself as the sole owner of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot people as a “minority society” in the region. It was emphasized that the Greek duo’s refusal to reach an agreement with the Turkish Cypriots perpetuates policies of harassment and aims to force acceptance of minority rights.
The Ministry also criticized the lack of sincerity in the Greek Cypriot leadership’s discourse on reaching an agreement, accusing them of inciting hostility towards Turkish Cypriots and perpetuating a divisive education system. The statement called for the Greek Cypriot leadership to acknowledge the reality of two separate states and peoples coexisting on the island and to work towards a sustainable future based on sovereign equality.
In conclusion, the Ministry urged the Greek Cypriot leadership to abandon their dominant mentality and embrace the existing facts on the island. They emphasized that peace and stability can only be achieved by recognizing the equal international status of both peoples and their states.
