
Mormenekşe Artichoke Festival Set for May 3-5 at BRTK 12th Annual Event

The 12th Mormenekşe Artichoke Festival is set to take place from May 3rd to May 5th, organized by the Mormenekşe Women’s Union with the motto “Artichoke is our crown jewel”. The festival will kick off with a procession on May 3rd at 6:00 PM and conclude with the “Mirror” concert on May 5th at 9:00 PM. Attendees can look forward to a range of social, cultural, and sports activities, including exhibitions, an eco day, and an “Artichoke Food Competition”.
This year’s festival will be dedicated to the memory of Ahmet Ertoprak, Hüseyin Özyaşar, Emine-Mustafa Ergazi, in honor of their contributions to the community. The 12th Mormenekşe Artichoke Festival was officially announced at a press conference held at the Salamis Bay Conti Resort Hotel.
During the press conference, Festival Committee Co-Chair Erşen Ummanel and other members highlighted the importance of promoting Mormenekşe, artichokes, and Cypriot culture through the festival. Despite facing financial challenges due to the absence of major sponsors, the committee has worked tirelessly for the past three months to ensure the success of the event.
Ummanel emphasized the festival’s focus on celebrating Cypriot culture and the significance of the slogan “Artichoke is our crown jewel”. The committee also mentioned the publication of the book “Cinara Artichoke Dishes”, which has gained recognition in the slow food gastronomy library in Italy and on the World Gourmet Map. Additionally, the Artichoke Dishes Competition aims to showcase the country’s culinary heritage and offer visitors a taste of these unique dishes.
Overall, the 12th Mormenekşe Artichoke Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of artichokes, culture, and community spirit. Attendees can look forward to three days of festivities filled with entertainment, competitions, and culinary delights.
