Netanyahu Launches Attack on Rafah to Block Ceasefire Agreement with Hamas
Hamas Condemns Israeli Attack on Rafah, Approves Ceasefire Proposal
The Hamas Movement has strongly condemned the recent land operation carried out by the Israeli army in Rafah, describing it as a desperate attempt by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prevent a ceasefire agreement from being reached. Osama al Hamdan, Member of the Political Bureau of Hamas, spoke out against the attack at a press conference held in Beirut.
Hamdan stated that the attack on the Rafah Border Gate, which resulted in civilian casualties, is a serious violation of international law. He emphasized that Netanyahu’s attempts to fake a victory will not succeed.
In response to the situation, Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, has approved ceasefire proposals presented by Qatar and Egypt. Despite this, the Israeli War Cabinet has decided to continue attacks in Rafah, leading to further tensions in the region.
Since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, a significant number of Palestinians, including women and children, have lost their lives in Israeli attacks on Gaza. The destruction of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, initiated the conflict as a response to ongoing violations against Palestinians and sacred sites. The toll of the conflict includes casualties on both sides, with hundreds of soldiers and civilians losing their lives.
Despite brief humanitarian pauses in the conflict, the situation remains volatile, with ongoing violence in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. The international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution to the crisis, urging all parties to engage in dialogue and ceasefire efforts.
