North Korea Launches Ballistic Missile: South Korea and Japan Report – Last Minute World News
North Korea Tests First Ballistic Missile of 2024
The South Korean General Staff has reported that North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan at 14.58 local time. This marks the first ballistic missile test conducted by North Korea in 2024.
According to an official from the Japanese Ministry of Defense, the missile fell outside the Japanese national exclusive zone. The Japanese government has announced that they are currently conducting possible damage assessment studies in the area where the missile fell. Prime Minister Kishida Fumio stated that he has given instructions to ensure the security of air and sea elements operating in the region and to be prepared for unexpected situations.
This recent launch comes after North Korea’s testing of a short-range ballistic missile on December 17 last year and an intercontinental ballistic missile, “Hwasong-18”, on December 18.
The international community is closely monitoring the situation and assessing the potential implications of this latest ballistic missile test. Following the announcement, the Prime Ministry Crisis Desk in Japan has been actively working to address the situation and minimize any potential risks.
