In Farap, Turkmenistan, a training course for dog handlers of the State Border Service has opened with the support of the OSCE
In the city of Farap, Charjev etrap, Lebap velayat of Turkmenistan, a training course for dog handlers of the State Border Service has commenced under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The five-day program will be attended by 24 individuals, including border guards, dog handlers, veterinarians, and dog breeding specialists.

This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Border Management Assistance Program in Central Asia and Afghanistan (BOMCA-10), funded by the European Union. It marks the final installment of a series of five courses that have taken place in various regions across Turkmenistan.

The OSCE Center in Ashgabat has enlisted two certified national expert dog handlers and a national veterinary dog handler to lead the training sessions. Participants can expect to gain extensive knowledge on service dog skills, handling techniques, and training strategies.

Moreover, attendees will be provided with a comprehensive training manual on dog training, which has been developed by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat in conjunction with dog handling specialists from Turkmenistan. This guide, tailored to specific scenarios, aims to equip instructors, trainers, and dog owners with a standardized program for the basic training and care of service dogs.

Throughout the course, experts will lead discussions on critical topics such as maintaining the physical and emotional well-being of service dogs, administering first aid, and delivering appropriate care to the animals.

The collaboration between the OSCE and local authorities underscores the commitment to enhancing the capabilities of dog handlers within the State Border Service. By equipping participants with the necessary skills and resources, this training course seeks to elevate standards of service dog management in Turkmenistan.
