Othello Polyphonic Choir Embarks on Journey to France

The Othello Polyphonic Choir, based in Famagusta, is gearing up for another achievement. They are currently representing our country at an international choir competition in Provence, France, which began on July 5th. The choir team is participating in the Folk Music category, performing Cypriot folk songs arranged by Oskay Hoca.

The team, led by choir conductors Erkan Dağlı and Rana Uluçay, conducted their final rehearsal at BRT before heading to France. Head of the choir team, Şifa Çolakoğlu, expressed their happiness for participating in such a competition after receiving a silver medal in 2019. She also mentioned that they will dedicate the award they receive to the Champion Melekler, who lost their lives in an earthquake.

Choir conductor Erkan Dağlı expressed his excitement about representing France from July 5th to 10th. He emphasized that the TRNC competition will take place soon, and they will receive awards for the Champion Angels. He added, “Our hearts will beat for our country on that day.”

Chief Rana Uluçay stated that they prepared CDs and booklets to promote Cypriot folk songs and brought them along for the competition. Uluçay also mentioned that they are currently working on a new CD, which is a collective effort to promote the country.

The Othello Polyphonic Choir’s participation in this international competition not only showcases their talent but also serves as an opportunity to promote Cypriot culture and music on a global stage.
