Over 1 Million Tattoo Removal Procedures Performed in Past 5 Years: Report

The latest data on tattoo removal has been published by Recovery, revealing that more than 1 million tattoo removal treatments have been successfully performed in the United States, Australia, and Canada in the last 5 years alone.

According to the study, there are 88.5 million Americans with tattoos, with 11 million new tattoos being done each year. Additionally, 28 million Americans have at least one tattoo that they are unhappy with or dislike, with the average number of tattoos per person in the USA being 3.3.

The research also highlights the most popular tattoo trends by decade, ranging from military tattoos and vintage designs in the 1950s-1980s to micro tattoos in 2020. It is interesting to note that the type of ink used in a tattoo can affect the removal process, with professional inks being more challenging to remove compared to amateur inks.

Dermatology Specialist Dr. Eda Yıldırım emphasized that old tattoos tend to respond better to removal than new ones due to the breakdown of ink particles over time. Yıldırım also warned of temporary side effects such as changes in skin color, redness, swelling, blistering, and scarring that may occur during the removal process.

After a tattoo removal treatment, it is crucial to keep the area clean and dry, avoid heat and hot water for 48 hours, reduce intense exercise for 24 hours, and protect the skin from sun exposure by using sunscreen. Following these guidelines can help ensure a successful and safe tattoo removal process for individuals looking to erase unwanted tattoos.
