Erzsébet Camps Hosted Over 40,000 Children in Balaton and Transylvania

During the summer months from mid-June to the end of August, Erzsébet camps in Balaton and Transylvania welcomed over 40,000 children, as announced by a government official on Sunday.

The camps not only catered to school groups but also provided a summer haven for children living in state care and foster homes. Zsófia Koncz, the state secretary for families at the ministry of culture and innovation, highlighted that the camps offered meals and healthcare services on a daily basis. The Elizabeth Foundation for Children of the Carpathian Basin organized the camps in Zanka, Fonyodliget, and Transylvania, with support from the government.

Children from 700 institutions in 510 settlements across Hungary and neighboring countries had the opportunity to travel to and from the Balaton camps free of charge. More than 22,000 campers took advantage of this offer, with train journeys organized and financed by the Elizabeth Foundation with government backing.

The programs at the camps were diverse, including concerts, traditional activities, digital skills development, and sports. Children enjoyed games, music and dance classes, environmental protection initiatives, educational presentations, community-building activities, and Christian spiritual programs. Additionally, there were adventure parks, hang-gliding, and archery for the campers to enjoy.

The statement also mentioned that over 3,000 children from Transylvania, Slovakia, Vojvodina, Transcarpathia, and Croatia, as well as other Hungarian communities beyond the borders, participated in the camps.

The Erzsébet camps provided a memorable and enriching summer experience for children from various backgrounds, fostering a sense of community and offering a wide range of activities for them to enjoy.
