Palestine Urges FIFA to Terminate Israel’s Membership in Last Minute Sports News
The Palestinian Football Federation (PFA) has taken a bold stance against Israel’s human rights violations in the Gaza Strip by calling on the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) to expel the Israeli Football Federation from the organization.
In a written application to FIFA, the PFA highlighted the ongoing attacks carried out by Israel since October 7, as well as the discrimination and racism experienced in the Israeli league. The PFA emphasized the destruction of the football infrastructure in Gaza, including the historical Al-Yarmouk Stadium, which was turned into a concentration camp by the Israeli occupation forces.
According to the PFA, the Israeli Football Federation has failed to take necessary actions against discrimination and racism in its league, a direct violation of Article 3 of the FIFA statutes. The PFA also pointed to social media posts by Israeli Football Association officials showing support for the violence in Gaza, as well as offensive remarks made by fans and clubs in the Israeli league.
One example cited by the PFA was the Beitar Jerusalem club’s fans proudly declaring themselves as Israel’s “most racist team” and directing insults towards Arab players in the league. These actions further solidified the PFA’s argument for the expulsion of the Israeli Football Federation from FIFA.
As the PFA continues to advocate for justice and fair treatment in football, the international community will be watching closely to see how FIFA responds to this important issue. It remains to be seen whether FIFA will take action against the Israeli Football Federation, but the PFA’s efforts have certainly brought attention to the human rights violations taking place in the Gaza Strip.
