Palestinian-born British surgeon Ghassan Abu-Sitta faces travel bans from both Germany and France, preventing him from attending a conference on international law in Palestine. Abu-Sitta, who was set to speak at a conference in Paris, was denied entry into France, sparking outrage and accusations of silencing witnesses of the ongoing atrocities in Palestine.
Abu-Sitta, who was supposed to address the French Senate on the topic of Israel’s actions in Palestine, expressed his frustration on social media, condemning the European fortress for hindering his entry into the country. The conference, organized by ecologist Senator Raymonde Poncet Monge, aimed to address issues such as Germany’s arms shipments to Israel and show solidarity with the Palestinians.
The incident has been labeled as a “scandal” by Guillaume Gontard, head of the ecologist group in the Senate, who stated that they are in contact with relevant government officials to address the situation. Senator Ian Brossat also voiced his disappointment, calling it “a great shame.”
Abu-Sitta, who had recently served in the Gaza Strip during the conflict with Israel, has faced similar challenges before. Despite his efforts to bring attention to the plight of Palestinians, he continues to face obstacles in his advocacy work.
