It also has the capability to monitor its owner and initiate interactions, such as hugs.

One of the key findings of the study was the significant increase in oxytocin levels, often referred to as the “commitment hormone,” among robot owners. Oxytocin is known to play a role in bonding and social interaction. On the other hand, individuals who did not own a pet robot had significantly higher cortisol levels, a marker of increased stress. Spending just 15 minutes with the pet robot was found to reduce cortisol levels in these individuals.

These findings suggest that robotic pets could be utilized as an alternative to animal-assisted therapy in the treatment of conditions such as depression and alcoholism. The ability of pet robots to provide companionship and comfort without the logistical challenges associated with real animals could make them a valuable tool in promoting mental well-being.
