Russian Deputy Minister of Defense Arrested for Bribery Accusations

Russian Deputy Minister of Defense Ivanov Remanded in Custody on Bribery Charges

The Basmanny Regional Court in Moscow has decided to keep Russian Deputy Minister of Defense Ivanov in detention until June 23 on allegations of bribery. This decision comes as a precautionary measure, following a request from the investigation authorities.

Ivanov is reported to have overseen projects related to the construction and repair works of institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Defense. Additionally, Sergey Borodin, who is believed to be Ivanov’s accomplice, has also been detained until June 23.

The press service of the Russian Investigative Committee released a statement yesterday, confirming Ivanov’s detention on suspicion of bribery. Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu were both informed about the situation.

Ivanov was appointed as Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia in May 2016, through a decree signed by President Putin. The investigation into the bribery allegations continues as Ivanov remains in custody.
