The Russian Duma Adopts Law on Spreading False Information about the Army
During a recent session held in the Duma, a new law containing stricter penalties for spreading false information about the Russian army was adopted. According to the new law, individuals found guilty of spreading false information about the Russian army may have their assets confiscated as a result of their actions.
Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin described the decision as “a law against scoundrels” in a statement on his social media account. He emphasized that the adopted decision will allow for the punishment of individuals who engage in activities against their country, and their goods, money, and other valuables may be confiscated.
In order for the newly adopted law to come into force, it must first be approved by the Russian Federation Council and then by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The implementation of this law reflects the Russian government’s commitment to combating misinformation and protecting the reputation of the Russian army. This decision highlights the importance of upholding the integrity and credibility of the armed forces, as well as holding individuals accountable for spreading false information that undermines national security.
