Azerbaijani President Aliyev Addresses Tensions with USA and European Union
Speaking at the “Karabakh: Return after 30 years. Gains and difficulties” meeting held at ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed recent tensions in the dialogue with the USA and the European Union (EU). Aliyev stated that the recent tension in the dialogue with the USA did not originate from Baku, and the cause of the problem is unknown. He emphasized that Azerbaijan has been engaged in dialogue with the axis of the USA, the EU, and Russia in recent years and expressed confusion over the sudden shift in relations with the US administration.
Aliyev also discussed Azerbaijan’s relations with the European Union, stating that EU membership is not a political goal for Baku. He acknowledged that the EU will never accept Azerbaijan as a member and emphasized the country’s pragmatic attitude towards this issue.
President Aliyev also criticized the European Parliament (EP) for its anti-Azerbaijani attitude, stating that more than 10 anti-Azerbaijan documents were approved in the EP. He expressed disappointment with the EP’s stance and condemned their behavior, describing it as irresponsible.
In addition, Aliyev addressed the issue of weapon sales to Armenia by France and India, suggesting that these sales add fuel to the fire and may embolden Armenia in its conflict with Azerbaijan. He emphasized that regardless of the quality of the weapons, the will to win the war is the determining factor and warned Armenia against underestimating Azerbaijan’s capabilities.
Overall, President Aliyev’s statements shed light on Azerbaijan’s diplomatic relations with the USA and the EU, as well as the country’s stance on regional conflicts and international politics.
