Transforming Trash into Treasure: EMU Architecture Students’ Exhibition

“EMU Architecture Students Organize Awareness Event on Sustainable Development Goals”
Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture recently organized an awareness event titled “From Waste to Art” as part of the “ARCH 320 UN SDGs: An Interdisciplinary Approach for the Future of Our Planet” course.
The event was conceptualized and presented by students as a term project and showcased works created using waste materials. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara, faculty member and course leader, the students displayed their artistic creations at the entrance of the central classrooms building.
The theme of the works revolved around the concept of a “happy world” and aimed to represent the United Nations’ sustainable development goals in an abstract manner. Additionally, the students incorporated the logos of the Sustainable Development Goals into their pieces to draw attention to the global objectives.
The exhibition, which seeks to raise awareness about sustainability, will be on display at the entrance of the Central Classrooms building until the start of the 2023-2024 Academic Year Spring Semester.
This initiative not only reflects the creativity and talent of the architecture students at EMU but also underscores the university’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices and global development goals.
