TUFAD Hosts Urban Event in Kızılbaş Park
“The ‘TUFAD in the City’ Event Brings Cultural Volunteers Together in Nicosia”
Nicosia recently hosted the “TUFAD in the City” event at Kızılbaş Park, organized with the slogan “The cultural volunteers of Nicosia are meeting with TUFAD in the City” and with the support of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB).
According to a statement from LTB, several dance groups from ASDER, FOLKDER, FOGEM, HASDER, GÖÇTAŞ, the Youth Center Union, Agios Lazaros, and NEU Sports Club performed at the event.
During his speech at the event, NTB President Mehmet Harmancı expressed the joy of being part of a family with folk dance associations. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Harmancı highlighted that online events were organized, and this year’s event was a special and beautiful occasion that reflected a shared mindset and spirit.
Harmancı also emphasized the importance of returning to their cultural roots in difficult times. He stated, “Our culture is imbued with hard work. Our ancestors faced adversity and worked tirelessly to build this region. Overcoming difficulties requires us to reconnect with our culture and essence.”
TUFAD President Arzu Can Turgay acknowledged the impact of the pandemic and earthquake disaster on their work. However, she expressed gratitude towards LTB, Harmancı, and all those who contributed to the organization. Turgay also emphasized that TUFAD actively participates in various activities and collaborates with different institutions.
The President of the Cyprus Turkish Folk Dance Federation, Özlem Kadirağa, praised the work of TUFAD and expressed her appreciation for the beautiful environment created by LTB. She thanked everyone involved in organizing the event.
The highlight of the evening was when TUFAD President Arzu Can Turgay presented NTB President Mehmet Harmancı with a special gift consisting of Turgay’s own costumes.
The “TUFAD in the City” event showcased the cultural richness and unity of the Nicosia community, highlighting the importance of preserving and celebrating their heritage in times of adversity.
