In an effort to enhance safety and security for both taxi drivers and passengers, the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has initiated the “Panic Button Vehicle Tracking and Camera System Project” in the city. This project will involve the installation of free camera systems and panic buttons in taxis operating within Antalya.
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, alongside Antalya Chamber of Drivers and Automobiles President Mehmet Ali Alkan, unveiled the project. Mayor Böcek underscored the importance of taxis in ensuring safe transportation for both residents and tourists. He emphasized that taxi drivers serve as ambassadors for the city and expressed the municipality’s commitment to providing a comfortable and secure travel experience for all passengers.
Mayor Böcek highlighted the meticulous efforts to enhance safety measures for taxi drivers and passengers. Through a cooperation protocol with the Antalya Chamber of Drivers, a total of 6,615 taxis in the city will be equipped with vehicle tracking and panic buttons, in accordance with the circular issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The installation of camera system devices will be provided free of charge, enabling electronic tracking of taxis in real-time.
Antalya Chamber of Drivers and Automobiles President Mehmet Ali Alkan lauded the project as a groundbreaking initiative in Turkey, aimed at ensuring the safety of both drivers and passengers. The panic button feature will enable swift intervention by emergency services in case of urgent situations.
The installation of vehicle tracking camera system devices with panic buttons has already commenced in taxis operating from Gazipaşa to Kaş, with the goal of completing the system by March 2025. Alkan commended Mayor Muhittin Böcek for prioritizing the safety and well-being of taxi drivers, demonstrating his support for the local business community.
With 300 vehicles already equipped with the system, the Antalya “Panic Button Vehicle Tracking and Camera System Project” is poised to set a new standard for safety in the transportation sector. The initiative underscores the city’s commitment to providing a secure and reliable taxi service for residents and visitors alike.
