Turkish Minister Ersoy Hails Türkiye as Museology Model
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy recently gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the Samsun Museum, highlighting the significance of bringing another contemporary work to this region known for its historical importance. The museum’s architecture, inspired by the waves of the Black Sea, aims to enrich the city and the people of Samsun with cultural and historical treasures.
In his address, Ersoy emphasized the deep-rooted history of Samsun, mentioning its significance in various ancient civilizations such as the Hittite, Persian, Roman, Eastern Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman eras. He noted that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s first steps in Samsun marked the beginning of Turkey’s independence and eventual establishment of the Republic.
Minister Ersoy expressed his vision for museums to be vibrant spaces that engage visitors through interactive exhibits and educational programs. He highlighted Turkey’s advancements in the field of museology, earning global recognition for innovative projects that blend technology with cultural heritage.
The opening of the Samsun Museum signifies a milestone in preserving the region’s historical artifacts and showcasing its rich legacy. With over 7,000 works on display, including pieces from various periods like the Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman eras, the museum promises a cultural and historical journey for visitors.
Furthermore, the museum’s ethnography section offers insights into Turkish culture and history through exhibits featuring tombstones from the Seljuk Period, Ottoman architecture models, and artifacts from the War of Independence. Minister Ersoy invited the public to visit the museum free of charge for a month, encouraging exploration of Samsun’s diverse heritage.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Governor Orhan Tavlı, AK Party Deputy Chairman Çiğdem Karaaslan, GNAT Planning and Budget Commission Chairman Mehmet Muş, and Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir. Following the speeches, Minister Ersoy and dignitaries toured the museum, marking the official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The New Samsun Museum is set to become a cultural hub for the city, inviting locals and tourists to immerse themselves in the region’s rich history and heritage.
