Turkmenistan’s Delegate Speaks at UN Geneva Meeting with Diplomats from the Orient
The UN Office in Geneva (UNOG) recently hosted a significant meeting with heads of the diplomatic corps and international organizations on January 28th. Organized by Tatiana Valovaya, UNOG Director-General, the event saw the participation of Vepa Hajiyev, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNOG.
Various representatives from public and non-governmental organizations, media, and academia were also in attendance. Valovaya highlighted the importance of cooperation in maintaining peace and dialogue amidst modern global challenges. She emphasized the need for collective efforts in building trust between states and underscored the role of multilateral diplomacy in achieving these objectives.
David Fernandez Puyana, Permanent Observer of the University of Peace (UPEACE) to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, spoke about the significance of peace, trust, and dialogue, especially in challenging times. He commended Turkmenistan’s efforts in upholding these values and reminded attendees that Turkmenistan initiated the proclamation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust under a UN General Assembly resolution.
In his address, Vepa Hajiyev, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, emphasized the relevance of peace and trust. He briefed participants on Turkmenistan’s activities in this realm and highlighted the symbolism of the country celebrating the 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality in 2025, as confirmed by multiple UN General Assembly resolutions. Hajiyev emphasized that Turkmenistan’s neutrality serves as a foundation for fostering dialogue, enhancing international cooperation, and ensuring sustainable peace.
The meeting provided a crucial platform for discussing cooperation prospects, exchanging perspectives, and strengthening dialogue among states and international organizations. Participants affirmed their commitment to collective endeavors in maintaining peace, trust, and stability on a global scale.
