
TURKSOY Organizes Commemoration Program for İsmet Vehit Güney

The International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) has declared 2023 as the Year of Commemoration of the famous Northern Cypriot painter İsmet Vehit Güney. This decision comes as part of their efforts to promote Turkish culture and art.
To mark this occasion, a commemoration program was organized in Ankara. The event was attended by various dignitaries and individuals associated with Turkish Cypriot culture and art. The program included the opening of a painting and photography exhibition featuring sections from İsmet Vehit Güney’s works and life.
During the event, speeches were made by TRNC Culture Department Director Şirin Zaimağaoğlu and TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, among others. They emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Turkish Cypriot culture and recognized İsmet Vehit Güney’s contributions to the arts.
The commemoration program also featured presentations and speeches by individuals who shared insights into İsmet Vehit Güney’s life and artistic journey. Former Minister of Tourism and Culture and Writer İsmail Bozkurt, İsmet Vehit Güney’s daughter Nilgün Güney, and other prominent figures in the arts community were among the speakers.
As a token of appreciation, TURKSOY presented the “TURKSOY 30th Anniversary Medal” to former Minister of Tourism and Culture and Writer İsmail Bozkurt. The event concluded with a family photo session to capture the memorable occasion.
