US Navy Member Sentenced to 27 Months for Espionage
A US Navy officer has been convicted of providing sensitive information to Chinese intelligence in exchange for bribes. The 26-year-old Wenheng “Thomas” Zhao was sentenced to 27 months in prison and will be kept under supervision for two years after his release.
Zhao, based in Port Hueneme, was accused of accepting bribes in exchange for transmitting sensitive military information to a Chinese intelligence officer from August 2021 to May 2023. The information included operational plans for the US military exercise in the Indo-Pacific.
