North Korea Launches Rocket Into Orbit, Carries Spy Satellite
According to reports from “NK News,” the South Korean General Staff (JCS) has stated that North Korea recently launched a rocket into orbit, apparently carrying a spy satellite. The rocket was reportedly launched at 10:42 local time and was headed south. The Japan Coast Guard has also issued warnings to ships in the area about potential falling rocket parts.
This recent launch marks the third failed attempt by North Korea to launch a spy satellite, following previous unsuccessful attempts on May 31 and August 23.
In contrast, North Korea has announced that the satellite, named “Malligyong-1,” has been successfully placed into orbit, as reported by Yonhap and based on North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The statement claimed that the satellite launch was “monitored by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un” and emphasized that it would enhance the country’s war readiness in response to adversarial military actions.
The United States has strongly condemned the rocket launch, accusing North Korea of violating multiple United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and escalating tensions. The White House emphasized the technology’s potential link to North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile program and called for international condemnation and serious negotiations.
Despite international condemnation, North Korea has announced its intention to launch more satellites in the near future, even after previous failed attempts.
South Korea has also reported that North Korea is preparing to launch another spy satellite within a week, prompting the South Korean General Staff to warn of necessary measures to protect the safety and security of its people.
The situation continues to be closely monitored as tensions rise following North Korea’s recent rocket launch.
