New Sanctions Imposed by US Against Hamas and Iran
In a recent development aimed at cutting off Hamas’ financing, the United States has announced a second round of sanctions against individuals and organizations linked to the extremist group. The move comes as part of a broader effort to disrupt Hamas’ financial networks and prevent it from exploiting the international financial system.
The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control released a statement highlighting Iran’s role in providing financial, logistical, and operational support to Hamas. Among the individuals targeted by the sanctions are a representative of Hamas in Iran and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
“The sanctions we announced today underscore the United States’ determination to disrupt Hamas’ financing networks by using our counterterrorism sanctions powers and working with our global partners,” stated the US Treasury Department. The aim is to prevent Hamas from exploiting the international financial system for its nefarious activities.
One of the notable figures targeted by the sanctions is Khalid Kaddoumi, who is identified as the individual facilitating communication between Hamas and the Iranian government. Additionally, officials from the Revolutionary Guard Quds Force, Ali Morshed Shirazi and Mostafa Mohammad Khani, are accused of training and aiding Hamas members.
The United States has also decided to impose sanctions on numerous organizations, including the Iranian Bonyad Shahid, also known as the Martyrs Foundation. This group, which is affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, has allegedly transferred millions of dollars to the families of militants through the Gaza-based Al-Ansar Relief Association.
The new sanctions reflect the United States’ commitment to combating terrorism and disrupting the financial support networks of extremist groups. By utilizing counterterrorism sanctions powers and collaborating with international partners, the US aims to weaken Hamas’ operations and limit its ability to carry out acts of violence.
The international community will be closely monitoring the impact of these sanctions on Hamas and its financial networks. The ultimate goal is to dismantle the infrastructure that allows terrorist organizations like Hamas to continue their destabilizing activities.
