The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has expressed its deep concern regarding the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, emphasizing the need for calm and diplomatic negotiations to avert further conflicts.
In an official statement, the Uzbek MFA highlighted its ongoing apprehension regarding the developments amid the growing conflict between the two neighboring nations. "Uzbekistan is following with concern the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan. We call on both sides to exercise restraint, act in the interests of peace and stability, and prioritize diplomatic dialogue to prevent a further deterioration of the situation," the statement read.
The recent surge in tensions follows a violent incident on April 22, where an attack on Indian tourists in Kashmir triggered a chain reaction of military actions. In retaliation, the Indian army launched "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, which, according to reports from Pakistani sources, resulted in airstrikes that caused the deaths of 26 individuals and left many others wounded.
In response to the airstrikes, Pakistan claimed to have deployed artillery and shot down five Indian military aircraft. The ensuing exchanges of fire have also resulted in civilian casualties, with Indian authorities reporting that seven civilians were killed and 35 others injured due to Pakistan’s counterattacks in Kashmir.
Uzbekistan has reiterated its commitment to facilitating any international or regional initiatives aimed at de-escalating the conflict and pursuing peaceful resolutions. The call for diplomatic dialogue underscores the region’s need for stability and cooperation amidst rising tensions.
