Uzbekistan Drops to 83rd Place in Rankings

Uzbekistan Drops in Global Rule of Law Index Rankings for First Time in Eight Years

According to the latest report released in 2024, Uzbekistan has experienced a decline in its ranking in the Global Rule of Law Index for the first time since 2016. Out of 142 countries assessed, Uzbekistan now holds the 83rd position, marking a drop of five places compared to the previous year.

The Global Rule of Law Index, conducted annually by the World Justice Project, evaluates countries based on a variety of indicators including limitations on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, human rights, law enforcement, civil justice, and criminal justice systems.

While Uzbekistan scored relatively well in terms of safety and security, achieving its highest rating in this category, its performance in other areas fell short of global standards. This decline in ranking comes as a surprise, as the country had consistently maintained or improved its position in the index over the past eight years.

Among the top five countries in the 2024 ranking are Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Germany. In Central Asia, Kazakhstan ranked 65th, Kyrgyzstan 101st, and Russia 113th.

This drop in ranking serves as a reminder for Uzbekistan to continue working towards strengthening its rule of law and addressing areas of improvement in order to ensure a fair and just society for its citizens.
