Uzbekistan Ready to Simplify Entry for Citizens of EAEU Countries
During the recent EAEU summit in St. Petersburg, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made an announcement that the country is prepared to simplify entry for citizens of EAEU countries by allowing travel with domestic documents. This decision is aimed at boosting tourism and strengthening regional cooperation.
The summit, chaired by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and attended by leaders from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, as well as representatives from Iran and Cuba, focused on expanding multilateral trade and economic cooperation, supporting industrial projects, and implementing collaborative programs. In his speech, Mirziyoyev highlighted the effective cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EAEU in various areas over the past few years.
Noteworthy achievements included an 11% increase in Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with EAEU member states in 2024 and the adoption of a new three-year cooperation plan with almost 40 measures across different sectors. Uzbekistan is actively participating in trade digitization, e-commerce, and climate change initiatives within the EAEU.
Looking ahead, preparations are underway for the fourth meeting of the Joint Working Group in March next year. The President emphasized the importance of eliminating trade barriers and harmonizing technical regulation systems. He also advocated for joining the Unified Customs Transit System agreement and becoming a member of the Eurasian Development Bank.
To further promote business connections, it was proposed to host the EAEU Business Council meeting in Tashkent in April 2025. The significance of cooperation in digital technologies and artificial intelligence was underscored, with an initiative to connect Uzbekistan to the EAEU’s integrated information system.
In the agricultural sector, a cooperation program will be developed to facilitate the mutual supply of agricultural products and implement innovative agro-industrial projects. Additionally, to encourage tourism exchanges, Uzbekistan is ready to implement a procedure allowing citizens of EAEU countries to enter the country with their domestic documents.
Overall, Uzbekistan’s commitment to simplifying entry requirements for EAEU citizens demonstrates its dedication to promoting regional cooperation and enhancing economic ties within the union. This move is expected to facilitate smoother travel and increase tourism between member states.
