Uzbekistan’s Research Institutes and Britain’s Oldest “Think Tank” Discuss Bilateral Cooperation
Ambassador of Uzbekistan Ravshan Usmanov recently met with the Director General of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), Karin von Hippel. The meeting, which took place in the United Kingdom, focused on discussing promising areas of cooperation between the think tanks of Uzbekistan and RUSI.
During the meeting, the British side was briefed on the activities of research institutes in Uzbekistan and their significant role in shaping the country’s domestic and foreign policies. Karin von Hippel expressed interest in collaborating with the expert community of Uzbekistan, including establishing partnerships with new “think tanks” in the republic and strengthening ties with partner institutions. She emphasized that the evolving geopolitical landscape in Central Asia, along with the dynamic developments in Uzbekistan, has garnered the attention of British scientific and academic circles towards the region.
RUSI, established in 1831, is the oldest and one of the most respected “think tanks” globally, specializing in international and military-political issues. The institute provides valuable insights, forecasts, and recommendations to various UK departments on a wide range of international policy matters. Additionally, RUSI plays an active role in organizing conferences, seminars, and international forums involving high-ranking politicians from the UK and other nations.
As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached to facilitate meetings in diverse formats, exchange experiences, and collaborate on joint events and research projects on topics of mutual interest. This collaboration signifies a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between Uzbekistan and RUSI, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in the future.
