“Vebal – Curse” Premieres at BRTK

The Turkish Cypriot Cinema and Television Association recently premiered a short film titled “Vebal – Curse” at the Gökay Boğaçhan Alsancak Cultural Center. The film, adapted from a novel called “Vebal,” tells the story of two sisters who are expelled from their homes under the “Deportation Law” during the Ottoman Period. A curse placed by the homeless siblings is passed on to a new family, affecting all generations to come.

Directed by Müge Günay, the black and white silent short film features a talented cast including Yeşim Kumral, Mehmet Yörükoğlu, and Aydan Aydoğan. The script was penned by Şafak Yolcu, the author of the original novel, with Ergün Kemaneciler serving as assistant director, Ayşe Şirin Taşgın as art director, and Stephan Tamuno as director of photography. Lecturer Specialist Tuğçe Akgül ensured health and safety protocols on set.

At the premiere, Günay expressed gratitude towards the audience for their support and announced plans to commence filming the full-length feature version of “Vebal – Curse” in the summer.
