Violent Riots Erupt at Israeli Prisoners’ Relatives Protest in Tel Aviv
Thousands of people gathered in Tel Aviv to demand a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement from the Israeli government. The protest, organized by relatives of Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip, their supporters, and opponents of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, took place in front of the Ministry of Defense.
Demonstrators carried banners and flags, expressing their dissatisfaction with the government’s lack of action regarding the Israeli captives in Gaza. The situation escalated as clashes broke out between protesters and police, leading to the detention of at least 3 individuals.
The protest comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Hamas, with reports of over 130 Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip, some of whom are said to be deceased. Hamas has stated that the number of Israeli prisoners killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza has surpassed 70.
Efforts are being made to reach a ceasefire and mutual prisoner exchange agreement, with proposals being presented with the mediation of Egypt and Qatar. A delegation from Hamas has reportedly traveled to Cairo to discuss the ceasefire proposal further.
Despite international calls for de-escalation, the Israeli authorities have continued their attacks on the Gaza Strip, with warnings of a potential land invasion on Rafah in the south.
