Walking to School: The Dream of a Palestinian Girl

Israel’s continued attacks on Gaza have resulted in a devastating toll on the lives of countless Palestinians. One of the most tragic consequences is the number of civilians who have been injured and had to undergo amputations. After enduring intense bombardment for 134 days, many individuals have lost limbs due to the lack of proper medical facilities and resources in Gaza.
One such victim is Cina, a young Palestinian girl who found herself caught in the crossfire of Israeli attacks. Seeking refuge in what was supposed to be a “safe zone,” Cina’s family was targeted by Israeli bombs. Though she was treated at the Al-Ehli Baptist Hospital, the 141-year-old facility itself was hit by an Israeli strike, tragically resulting in the loss of her leg.
Struggling to come to terms with her new reality, Cina expressed the profound sadness she feels at the thought of not being able to live a normal life. She shared her dreams of walking, playing, and pursuing an education like other children her age around the world. Despite the adversity she faces, Cina remains determined to become a doctor in the future.
Her mother, too, has had to endure the anguish of seeing her daughter’s suffering. With two of Cina’s siblings also killed and herself sustaining injuries, the family has faced immense hardship. Despite the immense challenges they have faced, they continue to call for an end to the injustice and violence perpetuated by Israel.
The heartbreaking story of Cina and countless other innocent children in Gaza serves as a haunting reminder of the human cost of conflict. As the international community bears witness to this tragedy, it is imperative that efforts be made to bring about peace and justice for the people of Gaza. Only through sustained global action can the cycle of violence and suffering be broken, and the dreams of innocent children like Cina be restored.
