Adam, also known as Safiyullah, is regarded as the first prophet and was chosen by Allah. After Allah created Adam, He also created Eve and instructed them to live in paradise. They were allowed to eat from all the trees except for one, as eating from that tree would make them oppressors.
However, the devil, who had disobeyed Allah’s command to prostrate to Adam, entered paradise in the form of a snake. He deceived Adam and Eve, telling them that if they ate from the forbidden tree, they would live forever. As a result, Adam and Eve were punished and were brought down from heaven to earth. However, Allah, who possesses eternal forgiveness, accepted their repentance beforehand.
The Quran also mentions the story of Adam’s sons, Abel and Cain. The devil, who was expelled to earth, influenced Cain and fueled his jealousy towards his brother. This led to the first conflict on earth, with Cain murdering Abel.
Adam, like all other humans, was created from dust. Allah breathed life into him and Adam, as the first prophet, expressed gratitude to Allah after sneezing. This is why Muslims are encouraged to say “Alhamdulillah” after sneezing. Adam also prayed to Allah.
When the angels questioned Allah about creating someone who would cause strife on earth, Allah responded, “I know what you do not know.” Surah Bakara, verse 33, states that Adam was taught all the names and that humanity is superior to all other creatures.
Adam was known for his patience and knowledge as a prophet. Allah taught him the names of all beings, and Adam passed down this knowledge to future generations.
Overall, the story of Adam highlights the importance of obedience to Allah’s commands and the consequences of succumbing to temptation. It emphasizes the need for repentance and acceptance of Allah’s forgiveness. Adam’s role as the first prophet symbolizes the beginning of divine guidance for humanity.
