World Central Kitchen resumes food distribution in Gaza
After Israel’s attack on World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers in Gaza on April 1, which resulted in the deaths of 7 employees, the international aid organization has now resumed its operations in the region. Following the tragic incident, WCK teams arrived at the Havle School garden in Deir al-Belah to distribute food to thousands of displaced Palestinians seeking shelter.
One of the beneficiaries, Palestinian Eşref Sultan, expressed gratitude for the aid provided by WCK and highlighted the negative impact of the organization’s suspension of work. Sultan acknowledged the importance of WCK’s assistance to the displaced population in Gaza and condemned Israel’s attack on the humanitarian workers.
“The images after the distribution of WCK meals speak for themselves,” Sultan remarked, expressing satisfaction with the nutritious meals provided by the aid organization instead of canned food items.
The murder of 7 WCK employees in the Deyr al-Belah region of Gaza on April 1 shocked the international community. WCK, headquartered in Washington D.C., confirmed that the victims of the attack were from Australia, Poland, the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada, and Palestine. The organization stated that the employees were in armored vehicles marked with the WCK logo in a designated safe zone during the assault.
As WCK resumes its aid efforts in Gaza, the memory of the employees who lost their lives in the tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
