The European Commission’s Vice-President, Margaritis Schinas, has stressed the difficulties faced by many refugees in finding employment opportunities.
In response to this pressing issue, an initiative has been launched to provide job opportunities for the thousands of Ukrainian refugees who are residing in Europe. Vice-President Schinas has emphasized the significance of businesses rallying together to ensure that the Ukrainian refugees, along with their loved ones, can establish themselves and secure a livelihood upon their return to Ukraine.
The number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe escalated significantly following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, surpassing 5.9 million individuals. This surge in displaced individuals added to the already staggering number of millions who have fled conflict and persecution in various regions like Syria, Sudan, and Afghanistan.
To address the specific challenges faced by Ukrainian refugee women in finding employment, the charity Tent Partnership for Refugees has taken charge of coordinating this employment support effort. The initiative has garnered the participation of major corporations, including Amazon, Hilton, and Marriott, among others. These companies have committed to hiring a total of 13,680 Ukrainian and other refugee individuals as part of their workforce within the next three years.
By providing access to employment opportunities, this initiative aims to empower and uplift the lives of Ukrainian refugees and enable them to rebuild their lives in their home country. The commitment shown by these prominent businesses will undoubtedly play a crucial role in securing a sustainable future for tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees.
It is essential to recognize the magnitude of the global displacement crisis and the profound impact it has on millions of individuals. As the situation continues to evolve, raising awareness, fostering solidarity, and offering support to those in need are crucial steps towards addressing this pressing issue.
