Basra’s scorching heat hits Istanbul – Late Breaking News

The heatwave in Istanbul continues, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees. Despite the scorching weather, locals and tourists alike are finding ways to beat the heat.

Some people are taking refuge in the shade of trees in parks, while others are cooling off by swimming in the sea. At Sarayburnu beach, 77-year-old Sadık Alkan shared, “I didn’t go into the sea but I came here to have fun, to sit and to spend time with friends. It’s the place we always come.”

Meanwhile, anglers at Eminönü are determined to continue fishing, undeterred by the high temperatures. Cemil Uslu, who frequently swims in the sea, expressed his love for the beach, saying, “I love this place, the sea is beautiful, there is a current and the adrenaline is high.”

According to Istanbul Aydin University faculty member and meteorologist Dr. Guven Ozdemir, the hot weather is expected to persist throughout August. The Marmara, Aegean, and Western Mediterranean regions are currently experiencing intense heat, with temperatures reaching 34 degrees in Istanbul.

Dr. Ozdemir explained that warm air currents from Arabia, combined with the Basra low pressure, are contributing to the prolonged heatwave in Turkey. He warned that the lack of rainfall is leading to drought conditions and emphasized the importance of water conservation.

As the heatwave continues, Dr. Ozdemir advised citizens to avoid going out between 11:00 and 17:00, wear light-colored clothing, stay hydrated, and seek shade whenever possible. He also highlighted the need to protect vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly from the extreme temperatures.

With August set to remain hot and dry, residents of Istanbul are urged to take precautions and stay cool during this sweltering summer season.
