
Call for Entries: 10th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition Now Open

The 10th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition is now accepting applications until May 3, according to a statement made by İKSV. The pre-selections of the competition will be held in May and June, with the final series scheduled to take place in Istanbul on 22-27 September. Stephane Lissner will serve as the jury president for this year’s competition.
Among the esteemed members of the jury are La Scala Theater Casting Director Alessandro Galoppini, British Royal Opera Jette Parker Young Artists Program Artistic Director David Gowland, tenor Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Artistic Director Badri Maysuradze, and Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Artistic Director and regular conductor Carlo Tenan.
Candidates for the competition, which is held in honor of the late Leyla Gencer, can opt to participate in the pre-selection process by uploading their video recordings over the internet during the application process. Preliminary results will be announced on the competition website on July 1. The competition is open to singers between the ages of 18-32 from all voice groups, with the first place winner receiving 7,500 Euros, the second place winner receiving 4,000 Euros, and the third place winner receiving 2,500 Euros. The audience will also have the opportunity to vote for the winner of the Leyla Gencer Public Award, worth 1,500 Euros.
Additionally, a three-month educational scholarship award from La Scala Theater Academy and the La Scala Theater Academy Special Award will be presented. The winner of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Special Award will have the opportunity to give a concert accompanied by the orchestra. Finalists will also be eligible for the British Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Program Special Award, which includes at least five training sessions at the British Royal Opera. Special Awards from Deutsche Oper Berlin and Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet will also offer finalists the chance to take part in productions at these renowned opera houses.
