Central Asian Universities Dive into Sustainable Energy Fundamentals with Online Course ‘Orient’

Students and staff from higher education institutions in Central Asian countries, including Turkmenistan, recently completed an online course on “Introduction to Sustainable Energy: Theory and Practice”. The course, designed by the European Union (EU), was specially created for the winners and participants of student debates held as part of the campaign “European Union – Central Asia: Days of Sustainable Energy” in all Central Asian countries in 2024.

The online course was organized by the EU project “Sustainable Energy Connections in Central Asia” (SECCA) and implemented by the Florence School of Regulation (FSR) in Italy, a renowned center of excellence for innovative training in energy and climate. The program consisted of nine modules, each with an online session led by instructors and researchers from FSR, as well as supplementary materials for self-study.

Upon completion of the course, participants gained insights into various topics, including the EU’s energy and climate policy, the internal energy market of the EU, electricity sector regulation, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, electric mobility, consumer engagement and support, gender aspects of sustainable energy strategies, and current challenges and prospects for the energy sector in the Central Asian region and individual countries.

The successful completion of this course undoubtedly equips participants with valuable knowledge and skills in sustainable energy practices. This initiative signifies the commitment of the EU and its partners to promoting sustainable energy solutions and fostering collaboration in the region.
