Destructive Waves in Rize Force Evacuation of 8-Storey Apartment Building | Video News Update
A severe storm wreaked havoc in a city in the evening, causing chaos and destruction. The powerful storm brought heavy rain and generated meters-high waves in the Black Sea. The waves crashed onto the beaches, flooding some areas and reaching the Black Sea Coastal Road, making driving extremely difficult for motorists. As a result of the giant waves, a business had its windows shattered and suffered damage inside.
In a separate incident, the exterior plaster of an 8-storey Kordon Apartment, located near the beach on Menderes Boulevard, collapsed due to the storm. Residents felt the building shake and promptly alerted AFAD authorities. As a safety measure, the building was evacuated, and a security perimeter was established around the premises by responding teams. Some of the 72 residents of the building were able to retrieve their belongings, while others were too frightened to enter the building. Those evacuated were accommodated with relatives or in guesthouses.
Additionally, two highways were closed to trucks due to the harsh weather conditions caused by the storm. The city faced significant challenges and disruptions as a result of the storm’s impact. Authorities are working to assess the damage and provide assistance to those affected by the severe weather event.
