EU Summit commences: Breaking World News
The European Union (EU) Summit has officially begun with the participation of the leaders of 27 EU member countries. This summit marks the final meeting of EU leaders before the European Parliament (EP) elections scheduled for 6-9 June.
Chaired by EU Council President Charles Michel, the summit also sees the attendance of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EP President Roberta Metsola. The first session of the summit will focus on discussions surrounding relations with Ukraine, Turkey, and developments in the Middle East.
Of particular note is the inclusion of discussions regarding Turkey in the agenda of the EU Summit after a prolonged period. The section dedicated to Turkey will review the recommendations outlined in a report prepared by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Borrell, in collaboration with the EU Commission. This report, focusing on the future course of bilateral relations following the Presidential election on 28 May 2023 and presented in November 2023, will be up for discussion.
Economic issues are on the agenda for the upcoming sessions scheduled for tomorrow. As the summit progresses, EU leaders will continue to address a wide range of crucial topics and issues impacting the region and beyond.
