The United Nations Cancels Gaza Session Due to Lack of Agreement
The United Nations (UN) has announced that the planned Gaza session, scheduled for 17:00 New York local time, has been cancelled. According to information obtained by the AA correspondent from UN sources, member states have not yet reached an agreement on the Gaza bill, which was supposed to be put to vote by the United Arab Emirates.
The draft resolution, which was planned to be put to vote tomorrow morning, calls for “ending the conflict” and “increasing humanitarian aid” in Gaza. It also calls on all parties to fulfill their duty to protect civilians in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, and requests the UN Secretary-General to establish a mechanism to monitor aid.
In addition, the draft resolution requires the UN to confirm that the aid is humanitarian aid and to provide information to the “Palestinian Administration and Israel” about the types of aid. It also includes a call to provide the necessary fuel for the distribution of aid and demands the release of all hostages, condemning any violation of international humanitarian law.
Sources have indicated that the USA wants a change in the phrase “end of conflicts,” which may be one of the reasons for the cancellation of the session. The UN has not yet announced a new date for the Gaza session.
