Galatasaray Basketball Team Appoints Zvezdan Mitrovic as New Head Coach
Galatasaray Basketball Team has officially announced the appointment of Zvezdan Mitrovic as the new head coach. The Yellow-Red club signed an agreement with Mitrovic covering the years 2022/23 and 2023/24.
Mitrovic was born on February 19, 1970, in Montenegro. He started his career as an assistant coach in his country’s team, Buducnost. He then had his first head coaching experience with Ukraine’s Khimki Yuzny team in the 2002/03 season.
After a 12-year career in Ukraine, where he won various championships and awards, Mitrovic took over France’s representative Monaco in a lower league in 2014-15. In his first year, he led the team to become champion and reach the top classification. He continued to make a name for himself on the European stage and won several French ProA League titles and was named coach of the year for three consecutive seasons.
In the 2018/19 season, Mitrovic was transferred to ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket, an important team in France, and got the chance to take part in the EuroLeague stage. He then returned to AS Monaco in the 2020/21 season and won the EuroCup Championship.
Aside from his coaching career, Mitrovic also managed to compete with his country’s national team Montenegro in the 2019 World Cup.
Galatasaray is hoping that Mitrovic’s experience and success in various teams and leagues will lead the team to victory.
