Gulf Countries Collaborate on Intelligence with Israel
Gulf countries have reportedly shared intelligence with Israel in response to Iran’s recent drone attack. According to The Wall Street Journal, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates collaborated with the US and Israel to counter the missile and drone strikes orchestrated by Iran on April 13. Through this partnership, Israeli and US forces were able to intercept many of Iran’s kamikaze UAVs and missiles, thwarting their offensive.
The success of this joint effort was attributed in part to the discreet intelligence provided by Arab nations regarding Tehran’s attack plans. Additionally, these countries took specific measures, such as opening their airspace to military aircraft, to support the operation. The Pentagon’s decision to transition Israel from European Command to Central Command facilitated increased military cooperation between Israel and Arab governments under US auspices.
Following discussions with the United States, the UAE and Saudi Arabia agreed to confidentially share intelligence, while Jordan also permitted the use of its airspace by US and other allied warplanes. Furthermore, Jordan deployed its own military aircraft to help prevent potential missile and drone attacks from Iran.
The tension between Iran and Israel escalated after the former threatened retaliation for airstrikes conducted by Israel on its consulate in Damascus, resulting in casualties among Revolutionary Guard officers. US officials warned of Iran’s potential for a significant attack on Israel in the near future.
As the situation unfolds, the collaboration between Gulf nations, Israel, and the US underscores a strategic effort to counter threats posed by Iran’s hostile actions in the region.
