Hungary’s National Cake: A Complete Guide to Confectioneries Offering the Traditional Treat

The Hungarian Confectioners’ Association has announced the locations where the winning cakes from the “Hungary’s Cake” and “Hungary’s Sugar-Free Cake” competitions will be available for purchase across the country.

Starting from 19 August 2024, visitors can buy these special cakes at the Street of Hungarian Flavors event at the Várkert Bazaar in Budapest. In addition to this event, over 500 confectioneries nationwide, as listed by the association, will also be serving these delightful treats.

The association has mentioned that the list of participating locations may continue to expand until 18 August. While the cakes are guaranteed to be available on 19 and 20 August, customers are advised to contact the confectioneries directly for availability after these dates. The complete list of places selling Hungary’s Cake can be accessed online, along with the list for Hungary’s Sugar-Free Cake.

The title of Hungary’s Cake for 2024 has been awarded to the creation called Poppy flower by confectioner Alfréd Kovács from Vác. The sugar-free category was won by Green raspberry, a creation by Szeged-based confectioners Ádám Novák and László Csonka.

This year marks the 18th time that the Hungarian Confectioners’ Association has organized the Hungary’s Cake competition, in celebration of Hungary’s national holiday on 20 August. This holiday commemorates Saint Stephen, the founder of the Hungarian state, and Hungary’s symbolic birthday.
