Indonesia’s Merapi Volcano Erupts Again, Sparking Activity in Other Volcanoes

Indonesia is currently experiencing heightened volcanic activity, with two more volcanoes erupting in the country. The Lewotobi Laki-Laki Volcano erupted, spewing ash to a height of 700 meters, leading to the evacuation of 6,500 people in the region. Meanwhile, the Marapi volcano in the west of Sumatra Island also erupted for the third time this month, prompting the evacuation of 500 people in the area.

In addition to these eruptions, the Semeru Volcano in the east of Java Island and the Ibu Volcano on Halmahera Island erupted yesterday. The Semeru Volcano unleashed lava rivers, while the Ibu Volcano spewed ash to an altitude of 1300 meters. Authorities have urged the start of evacuations from these areas.

The most active volcano in Indonesia, Merapi, is under close watch as it poses a potential threat to about a quarter of a million people living within 10 kilometers of its vicinity. Local authorities have advised people to stay at least 7 kilometers away from the volcano crater for their safety.

Indonesia is home to more than 120 active volcanoes and is located in the Pacific Earthquake Zone, also known as the “Ring of Fire”. This area is known for its frequent seismic movements and volcanic eruptions, making it one of the most active regions in the world in terms of volcanic activity. Authorities continue to monitor and respond to these ongoing volcanic events to ensure the safety and well-being of the local population.
