Kazakhstan to Create Natural Reserve for Caspian Seals in the Orient

Kazakhstan to Establish Natural Reserve for Caspian Seals

In a move to protect the endangered Caspian seals, Kazakhstan has announced plans to establish a natural reserve dedicated to the conservation of this rare species. Zulfiya Suleymenova, Advisor to the President and Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation, made this announcement during a roundtable discussion in Astana. The roundtable focused on the conceptual approaches and priorities within the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)-Kazakhstan Partnership Program for sustainable water resource management and irrigation.

The reserve will be located within the waters of the Caspian Sea, covering territories in the Mangystau and Atyrau regions. In addition to the reserve, a research institute will also be set up to study the Caspian Sea’s ecosystem and develop measures for the conservation of seals.

The establishment of this reserve is expected to not only help in preserving the Caspian seal population but also contribute to the overall restoration of the region’s ecosystem, benefiting other flora and fauna species as well.

This initiative marks a significant step towards safeguarding the Caspian seals and ensuring the protection of their habitat for future generations.
