Kyrgyzstan secures $13 million for Kambar-Ata 1 construction

President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan has recently signed a law ratifying a financing agreement with the International Development Association (IDA) for the Kambar-Ata Hydropower Plant 1 Project. The agreement, which includes additional funding for technical assistance, was signed on September 9, 2024, in Bishkek, and was approved by the Parliament on February 27, 2025.

The total funds allocated for the project amount to $13.6 million, with $11 million in the form of a loan from IDA and $2.6 million as a grant. The terms of the funding include a 50-year loan term, a 10-year grace period from the date of signing, a 0 percent interest rate, and a 0.5 percent commitment fee determined annually by the IDA Board of Directors.

The agreements aim to provide technical support for the construction of the Kambar-Ata 1 HPP, a significant project for Kyrgyzstan’s energy infrastructure. This investment is expected to contribute to the country’s development and economic growth in the long term.
