Mongolian Women’s Chess Team Triumphs Over USA
The 45th Chess Olympiad is currently underway in Budapest, Hungary, from September 10 to 23, 2024. This international team chess event is organized by the International Chess Federation and marks the first time the Olympiad is being held in Hungary since 1926.
A total of 197 teams from 195 countries are participating in the open category, while 183 teams from 181 countries are competing in the women’s category. Among the participants are the men’s and women’s teams from Mongolia.
The Mongolian men’s team consists of players such as IM G.Amartuvshin, FM S.Chinguun, FM E.Baasansuren, IM M.Amilal, and FM Kh.Itgelt. On the other hand, the women’s team includes WGM T.Munkhzul, IM B.Munguntuul, IM D.Nomin-Erdene, WFM E.Khuslen, and WCM B.Mungunzul.
Currently, the Mongolian men’s team is ranked 53rd and has had a mixed start to the tournament. They began with a strong 4-0 victory over Mauritius but then faced draws against the Czech and Israeli teams. They bounced back with wins against Germany and Sudan in subsequent rounds, with their upcoming match against the Bulgarian team.
In contrast, the Mongolian women’s team is performing exceptionally well and is currently ranked 3rd without a single loss. They have secured victories against teams from Guatemala, Monaco, Peru, Spain, and the United States, causing a stir with their win against the US team. Their next challenge will be against the Georgian team.
Overall, both the men’s and women’s teams from Mongolia are showcasing their skills and determination at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, aiming for top finishes in their respective categories.
