The Supreme Court has made a pivotal decision regarding wedding jewelry, stating that the jewelry worn by the bride belongs to the bride, and the jewelry worn by the groom belongs to the groom. This ruling comes after a heated debate over whether the gold and accessories worn at weddings should be considered the property of the man or woman.
In a recent interview with CNN TÜRK, Lawyer Selin Kırhan explained that the Court of Cassation has revised its previous decision, emphasizing that exclusivity is the determining factor. Jewelry items such as bracelets, earrings, and necklaces that are traditionally unique to women will be considered the property of the bride. On the other hand, items like money and gold worn by the groom will rightfully belong to the groom.
To determine ownership of the jewelry, Kırhan mentioned that wedding videos and photos are carefully reviewed, and expert jewelers are consulted to create a detailed report. This report helps in identifying who wore what during the wedding ceremony.
