In a recent operation, the Coast Guard Northern Aegean Group Command teams successfully rescued 99 illegal immigrants who were left to die by Greek Coast Guard teams. The operation took place in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of Ayvacık.
Acting on information received, the Coast Guard swiftly responded to the presence of illegal immigrants in rubber boats at three different locations. The rubber boats, carrying a total of 99 individuals, were pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by the ‘TCSG-6’ and ‘TCSG-28’. The immigrants, consisting of 46 Afghanis, 51 Yemenis, and 2 Liberians, had been abandoned by the Greek Coast Guard.
Following the rescue operation, the illegal immigrants were taken to the Foreigners Removal Center in Ayvacık, where necessary procedures will be carried out. It is imperative to address the issue of illegal immigration and work towards finding humane solutions.
