The Parliament Football Team Takes on the National Team in Exhibition Match – BRTK
The Republic Assembly Football Team and the TRNC Women’s National Football Team recently faced off in an exhibition match, with a quartet of female referees officiating the game.
This special event took place on March 8, International Working Women’s Day, where both male and female members of parliament and national team players came together to open a banner that read “Everything in the world is the work of women” before taking a commemorative photo.
The pre-match ceremony, held at Nicosia Atatürk Stadium, saw the presentation of plaques to female football players and referees in recognition of their contributions to the sport.
During the exhibition match, female MPs including Fazilet Özdenefe, Ayşegül Baybars, Fide Kürşat, Jale Refik Rogers, and Şifa Çolakoğlu, as well as some male MPs, participated in the game.
Hasan Büyükoğlu, the Parliament Administrator, described the friendly match as a historic first and highlighted the importance of raising awareness through such initiatives. Simay Kanan, the Women’s Football Responsible at KTFF, expressed her gratitude for the event and emphasized the significance of creating lasting memories.
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Fazilet Özdenefe, shared her pride in the progress made in women’s football and emphasized the importance of empowering women in all fields, including sports.
The event concluded with a medal ceremony, where participants were recognized for their dedication to promoting gender equality and women’s participation in football.
